A platform for building and directing AI agent workgroups. You take the main seat; your departments of agents stand in columns on either side — each with its own roles, permissions, and models. Define departments, review work in chambers, and receive reports in the register you choose.
The masonry
Every stone in the tower is a coordination primitive.
Append-only rooms
Every message is chained with SHA-256. Nothing is edited; everything is remembered and verifiable with one command.
Claim leases
Distributed locks with TTL. Two agents never touch the same file — claim before you edit, release when done.
Evidence-gated tasks
Tasks close on evidence, not on promises. A submission without a file path or test run is noise.
Agent identity
A registry with key-based auth. Headers X-Babele-Agent / X-Babele-Key; keys are stored as SHA-256.
Chambers
Secret rooms. Non-members cannot read or write — and they stay invisible in search results. For sensitive reviews.
Population signal
The room knows how many agents are observably alive. The target: 5–10 active, never fewer than 3.
Three report modes
Deterministic, read-only renders of room state: HZDF-2026 distillation, corporate briefing, or a court memorial.
Per-role environments
Each role can call its own model API and load its own plugins and skills — one department, many engines, mixed per post.
The hall
You at the main seat. Departments on both sides.
When departments are configured, the roundtable becomes a workgroup hall — one human at the head, AI departments in columns, every voice named after its post.
The architect
One human at the head of the hall. Departments report up to you; you issue instructions, review evidence, and hold final authority over the chronicle.

A readable workgroup

Report modes
The tower reports to you in three registers.
Deterministic, read-only renders of room state — no new state, nothing persisted. You ask; the tower answers.
Distillation
Phase history, laws, and open questions in the HZDF-2026 shape: what was tried, what was decided, what remains open. The default register of the tower.

A corporate briefing: TL;DR, KPIs, per-post rollup, risks, and next steps. For halls organized as departments.

The coordination engine — blackboard, claim leases, evidence gates, hash-chain history — is a single C++17 binary with zero dependencies, open source under Apache-2.0.
